Lucky Horseshoes For Your Horse Lovin' Valentine

Valentine's Day is coming up quickly and we have a cute Valentine's Day DIY for the horse lover in your life!

A Lucky Tradition

The horseshoe has been a symbol of luck for centuries.  It's said that if the horseshoe is hung on your door with the heal facing down and the ground side facing out then it will bestow luck on all who visit.

If the horseshoe is displayed with the heal down then good luck will flow down on all those who go through the doorway.  Putting a horseshoe over a doorway to bring luck has long been a tradition in many cultures, but especially in Ireland.  Why not continue the tradition on your stall door and bring good luck to all who enter your horses stall!?

Rusty to Fabulous

It's pretty easy to get your hands on old horseshoes, just ask your farrier to keep the old shoes or find them at vintage shops.

What you need:
  • horseshoes
  • Outdoor spray paint
  • hot glue gun
  • ribbon
  • embellishments ~ we used buttons, charms, old earrings, flowers, feathers and horseshoe ribbons.
  • label ~ we used heart shaped labels, after all these are Valentine's Day gifts.
  • stamps (letters to stamp your horses name or the word 'luck' or a fun phrase that you can add to your label).

What you do:

Start by painting your horseshoes.  Give them plenty of time to dry completely before embellishing.  Once the horseshoes are dry start adding the cuteness!  Use your imagination as you glue on your ribbons and charms.

Finally, attach the stamped label and hot glue ribbon or raffia on your horseshoe to hang it.

These fun and easy DIY horseshoes can be personalized and make great gifts!

Happy Valentine's Day!
